Hot List and Happenings

TV SHOWS

  • So You Think You Can Dance! One of the best shows ever! Tuesday will be the first performance show for the Top 20 (10 couples) and I think this season has some of the best dancers ever!
  • Glee! OMG! Love it! If you aren't watching Glee, then you should start! I've even bought some of the show's songs on iTunes. The "It's My Life/Confessions" Bon Jovi/Usher mash-up was so cool! And the guys on the show are pretty cute too!
  • Dexter! I finally saw the first season and I cannot wait to start the second season, even though I already saw some of the episodes with Sarah months ago! Netflix Watch Instantly rocks!

MOVIES

  • Where the Wild Things Are! I kept dropping hints about wanting to see it, so Chris caved in and took me! Chris ended up falling asleep, but I liked it! I kept thinking that there is no way a 6 or 7-year old would sit through the movie and understand the deeper context. There were some parts in the movie that were slow and drawn-out, but all in all, I liked it! The Wild Things looked so real! I found out afterwards that they were costumes and people were inside them. So cool!
  • 17 Again! That scene where Zac Efron gets out of his car, puts on his leather jacket, his aviator sunglasses, flips his hair! My gosh! If I was 13, I would so totally have his posters all over my walls! I think that being 22.5 years old, I'm too mature for them. Right?

MUSIC

I so totally love to sing and dance in the shower, so this is my current Shower Playlist!
  • Jay Sean f/ Lil' Wayne - Down
  • The Kooks - Naive
  • Ashlee Simpson - Coming Back for More
  • Chris Brown - Forever
  • Phoenix - Lisztomania
  • Rihanna - Umbrella
  • Britney Spears - Circus
  • Nsync - It's Gonna Be Me

BOOKS

  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
  • God Is Dead. What if God took the form of a Sudanese woman and she died and was eaten by hyenas? What would happen to the world?
  • Dave Eggers! One of my top 5 favorite authors! He wrote "Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius", "What is the What", "Zeitoun". I just finished "How We Are Hungry"! He co-wrote the Where the Wild Things Are screenplay, and to go along with the movie, he wrote the novel "The Wild Things". I'm reading it now, and the coolest part about the book is that it's Fur covered!!!! (<--- click me to see!) I like petting it while I'm reading it!

The fall edition of the Friends of the Library Book Sale (FOLBS) kicked off yesterday!!! It was nuts! I spent a little more than four hours shopping for books. I found so many books that my arms and shoulders started to hurt, so I paid for the ones I had already, went to the car, dropped them off, and went back again! I spend $40.00 and got 28 books, including:

  • Two books by Zadie Smith (White Teeth, The Autograph Man)
  • Two books by Jonathan Safran Foer (Extremely Loud, Everything is Illuminated)
  • The Elegance of the Hedgehog
  • Jonathan Strange and Mr. Morrell
  • Middlesex
  • The Namesake
  • Sarah's Key (I got this one because of you Ali! Only $2.00!)

If I hadn't been working at Borders for the past 5 months, I probably would have passed over nearly all of the books I bought. Spending all day looking for books, shelving books, ringing up customers, has expanded my literary horizons. I plan on going back to the FOLBS tomorrow after work to see if I can find anything else. And I'll probably go back on Wednesday, which is the last day, because it's like dime-day. How can you pass up books for ten cents?

Mom was here on Thursday/Friday. Our old family friends' daughter had an audition for the dance program at UF, so mom asked if she could ride up to Gainesville with them. She got here late Thursday night and left Friday evening. I was so so happy spending time with mom, even though we probably only spend 8 hours together over the two days. I don't realize how much I miss my family until I see them and then have to say good-bye. I talk to mom on the phone, seriously, everyday, but you can't compare talking on the phone to talking face-to-face. There's something comforting about sitting next to your mom, watching TV, playing along to The Price Is Right. It was something we did time and time again back in the day. It makes me sad to think about moving from Florida and maybe only seeing family once a year (if I'm lucky).

Guess what I had for dinner tonight? Little Caesar's pizza and Crazybread! Oh yeah! The last time I had LC was our LOEF road trip to Busch Gardens! Do you guys remember? We found the billboard in Tampa and got all this pizza and crazybread! We ate so much! And then played Ultimate Spoons! So much fun!!!!

October is Breat Cancer Awareness Month, so my monthly donation was to the Susan G. Komen charity. All month long I've been trying to wear pink. I'm not sure if this should count, but I've been wearing only pink panties for the past 25 days. I have a lot of pink panties. Pink shirts, pink sweaters, pink belt. I have pink beaded bracelets that I put on each morning. I even made a pink ribbon out of string that I pinned to my Borders namebadge thing. Grandma had a mastectomy. When I was younger, I think mom had early signs of breast cancer. I'm probably going to get it. Rats. Chris will probably be bummed.

I finally bought Chris is birthday present. His birthday was September 17th. He never told me what he wanted, so I didn't get him anything. The other day he told me that the videogame FIFA 2010 is out and that's what he wants. I got it for him. $64.04! I told him that he has to spend that much on me for my birthday. Even Steven.

  1. 17 Again was a great movie. I never watched any of the HSM movies and so never quite got the Zac Efron appeal but my god. I get it now. Plus, he's our age so don't even have to feel guilty about it.

And, Dave Eggers is amazing. Heartbreaking Work is one of my favorite books.

Curious to hear what else you got at FOL sale!

  2. I'm glad you finally started watching Dexter! It's so amazing, and I'm bummed we have to wait to watch more since we're on season 4. It just keeps getting better, you'll love it!

Oh man, Little Caesar's is the best! That was a really run trip :)

It's funny that you got Chris a video game for his birthday. I got one for Matt too lol.
