Hot List - Bite Size Edition

I haven't posted in a while mainly because nothing is going on. The only thing I could think of posting is a small hot list, so here it is...

MUSIC

The two songs that are on constant repeat are Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and Ke$ha's "Tik Tok". I listen to these songs on the drive to work, on the drive home, in the shower, when I'm lounging around the house, when I have impromtu one-person dance parties, etc. I think you get the point!

TV

Ariel from work thought I would like Ally McBeal, so she let me borrow season 1. I really like it! I so totally want a local hangout bar that everyone goes to after work where everyone knows each other and where there are dancing twins. Yes, dancing twin guys who wear matching outfits and have choreographed dance routines!

Chris and I find ourselves watching rediculous MTV reality shows everynight. Jersey Shore (yes, I watch this), The Real World, The Buried Life, 16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom.

Hooray American Idol is back on!

BOOKS

The first book I read this year was Middlesex and I really liked it! If you haven't read it, it's more or less about a hermaphrodite and her/his quest for self-awareness and acceptance. Callie/Cal was born with both male and female genitalia. Her family, who was unaware of her male parts, raised her as a girl. But when Callie learns the truth about her physical make-up, she feels more nature by embracing her male-ness and becomes Cal. At work, me and Martha got in a discussion about it. I would refer to the main character Calli/Cal as "she" or "her", but Martha would reference Calli/Cal by using "he" and "him". It really is an interesting book. Word has it that it's going to be made into a movie. Ugg. Why can't Hollywood leave good books alone.

I just finished reading The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris. Sad book. Tim has this unnamed, one-of-a-kind, unseen of medical condition that takes over his body and makes him walk. He will be sleeping in bed with his wife, or at work in this prestigious law firm, and then, all of a sudden, something clicks in him and he's walking with no control of where he's going or when he'll stop. The toll his condition takes on him, his family, and his co-workers is heartbreaking. This is one of those books that trying to make the readers cherish what they have and not take life for granted.

  1. What is The Buried Life? I love MTV reality shows. Also, I liked Middlesex a lot. It is like the Indie cult classic, which makes me like it slightly less because every hipster and their mom is like, "oh this book changed my life; I relate to Cal so much. I'm still searching for my true identity, not one society prescribes" but other than it's annoying hipster following, the book itself is fantastic. xoxo
