Promotion x3!

I now have like 4 job titles at Borders now!

1. Cashier

I was this from the start, and everyone told me that new employees pretty much start at the registers and then move on to becoming a seller. I don't really mind the registers. I get a lot of my good stories from the customers who come by.

2. Children's Specialist

I found out about this "title" in June. I still have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I "run" the kids parties. I think that may be it. I am super excited about the "Where The Wild Things Are" party in October. The store recieved a box full of crowns (kinda like the ones at Burger King) that say "Let the Wild Rumpus Start". If you haven't read WTWTA recently, you might not get the whole crown thing. But I'm excited!

3. Seller

I've finally become a seller! I think the only reason I became one was because nearly all the other sellers are in school again and their work availabilities are pretty much non-existant. But whatev, I'm happy. I get to hang out at the Info Desk with all my cool co-workers. Being a cashier, I would have to stay close to the registers, and I would have no one to talk to. But there is always at least two sellers scheduled at the same time, so when I'm working, I have a buddy to hang out with. And my interaction with Heather is drastically cut down. She's SO WEIRD! I have to answer phones, help customers find books, shelf stuff, process online reserves, etc. I love it when I help a customer find a book and put it in their hands... they get so excited!!

4. Corporate Sales person

This promotion-thingy was a complete surprise! Elizabeth, who was in charge of this, left, and my managers asked me if I would like to fill her position. At first I was really hesitant; I had only been working at the store for only three months, whereas some employees have been here for years. But I was told that I have the personality, smarts, and skills to do it. I, personally, think that no one else wanted to do this or had the time to, and I was the only option. Whatev. When schools or hospitals need to order large quantities of books or books that you normally won't find in stores, they send Borders their order, and we would go to our suppliers and fill the order. What I have to do is get the orders, process them, order the books, receive the books when the supplier mails them back to Borders, and mail the books back to the school or hospital. It sounds like a really easy job, but it isn't. I quasi-trained for all this in only 4 hours, and there are so many different things I need to keep track of and so many different situations I'll experience. I need so much help, but everytime someone says they can help, something comes up and they say that we'll get to it another day. Uggg.

I was supposed to train in the cafe last week, but the hot water heater broke. It's against health code to operate without hot water (for sanitation reasons) so the cafe was closed for a while. The heater was fixed a couple days ago, so I was scheduled to start training yesterday, but co-worker called to say that she would be two hours late. With her gone, I had to cover registers and didn't get a chance to train. Sad. I'm really excited to learn how to make drinks. I'm going to be a bartender-of-sorts!
