I Love My Job!

Today was my first official day as a Borders employee. I've been training and shadowing the past two days, so this morning it was me without training wheels. Technically, there only needs to be one cashier, but today there was me and another person to help out in case I needed it. There are only 11 people working for this Borders, so it's like a tight, close-knit family. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. They don't look down on me or act superior; everyone truely was looking out for me and making sure I'm ok.

I got into a long conversation with a 4th grader today. His mom was buying "Hatchet" and "Island of the Blue Dolphins" for him, and I told him that I read those books in 4th grade too. I recommended "Where the Red Fern Grows", so his mom went back and got it for him. That book was the first one that made me cry. Poor Old Dan and Little Ann.

I didn't mess up once and I opened up like 10 new Borders Rewards accounts!

I was told that Borders encourages its cashiers to strike up conversations with customers about their books and other books they might like. It's a way to make them feel welcome in the store and want to come back. All day, I talked to people about books. I love my job!
