High School Flashback

Yesterday, my co-worker Katie wanted to know if I wanted to hang out with the Borders gang. They were planning on going to Common Grounds for karaoke night. I said that it would be fun and to just call me once all the details were set. I met her, Marcus, Derrick, and Ariel there at 11:30. I also met a couple of their "outside work" friends.

I had never been to any sort of karaoke night. The closest I've come was Rock Band night and people singing into the fake mic. It was so much fun! There wasn't many people there so we had enough room to dance around and not bump into other people. Some of the songs that were sung were:
  • Lose Yourself - Eminem (**) My rating system 0 to 5 stars.
  • Sweet Dreams - The Eurythmics (****)
  • I Saw Her Standing There - The Beatles (*****)
  • Give It Away - Chili Peppers (***)
  • Summer Loving - Grease (**)
  • Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain and Tenille (*)
  • Like A Prayer - Madonna (****)
  • Creep - Radiohead (****)
  • I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys (************)

None of us sang anything though. Apparently the karaoke DJ doesn't like Marcus so he sometimes doesn't let him or any of his friends sing anything. One of these days I'll get enough courage to sing something.

We left CG at 1:30 and some of us went back to Derrick's apt to hang out. This is where I got my high school flashback. We had a DANCE PARTY in Derrick's bedroom! We listened to Interpol, Le Tigre, Franz Ferdinand, We Are Scientists, Phoenix, The Faint. Man, it reminded me of all the times we would go to Megan's or Monica's houses and just dance in their rooms. Dancing in the dark with the only light coming from the computer screen, I could just see Peter, Danielle, Megan, CJ and that whole gang rather than Ariel and Derrick. It was so weird. I had so much fun that I completely lost track of time. Before I knew it, it was 3:00 in the morning! I had been awake for 20 straight hours and I wasn't even tired!

Before leaving, Derrick told me that Brandon, one of his friends that I hung out with all night, liked me and asked him about me. Derrick very kindly told him about Chris and how I was "unavailable" (Derrick's word, not mine). Ugg, if boys are hitting on me, I can only imagine how many girls are hitting on Chris when he goes out.
